I walked into the kitchen last week for dinner and my wife was beaming.
“Wow,” I said. “You’re in a good mood.”
She had just volunteered at a food bank and at closing time she inherited a whole left-over basket of fresh organic tomatoes. She brought them home and not knowing what else to do with them, she made pasta sauce.
It tasted out of this world, but that’s besides the point.
The real story is that she’d always wanted to make pasta sauce from scratch but felt intimated by the process, so she never tried. Faced with the basket of tomatoes, having made the decision to give it a whirl, and then achieving such a delicious result, was a huge natural high for her.
I contend that such small acts, where we defy whatever doubts we have about our capacity and find out we’re far more capable than we thought, is one of the most worthwhile things we can pursue in life. Because such small steps are precisely how confidence really grows, one courageous ingredient at a time.
That’s what I’m here for. To help you find your own secret sauce.
